Survival of the First Day!!!!

Well it is official I had the first day of my teaching career....and I have the best news ever! I loved every minute of it! I thought for sure I was going to be stressed out and nervous, but I wasn't. I was so comforted and had so much help, and on top of that, my class is so good! It turns out I have a class of twenty-three students (as of today, the number still can change). I had fifteen girls there, and eight boys.
The day started out very well. I got there early and was ready to make copies and get any last minute things ready to go. Don't worry, I got them done! Then the bell rang, the music starts to play, and this is the signal that it is time for me to go pick up my students! Yeah! The first time I get to meet all of my students! I must say I really have the best class at Nibley Park!
The students came right in and got started on what I call their self start. The got right to work and did an excellent job. After that it was time for math! I got to read my class the story the math curse! If you haven't read the story, it's all about how you can look at everything in your daily life like a math problem. Then we made the cutest boxes and put our own math curse in our life on them. I was able to hang them on the wall, and now we have a classroom full of our own art work! I am so proud of my students!

After math we moved into reading! This is where I realized I thought I was super women and could get through heaps of information! I don't think I even made it through half of the material I had planned. It was okay though, I would rather be over prepared, than not have enough  to do.
After reading, we had a special presentation by out advanced learning specialist. She works with all of my students that are really high. She talked about how imagination is really important. She put on a cute little puppet show, and my students loved it.
After this is was about lunch time! Can you believe I already am at lunch! The time just flew by! I couldn't believe how fast my day went! I walked my students down to lunch, then came up and cooked a small frozen pizza for my lunch. I was picking up something, and getting prepped for the next activity, and then all of a sudden, the bell rings, and I still have half a frozen pizza, I hurried and snarfed it down, and then my kids came right back in.
After lunch we do silent reading. Today, we had to talk a lot about book selection and how you select a book. The students were able to all find a book that they liked, and then that became their Silent reading book. This took way more time than I had planned, but it was fine, it all worked out, and then we all just silently read.
After we finished reading, the vice principal and the counselor came into my classroom, to give another special class presentation. This was a little hard, I didn't' know they were coming into my classroom, and they took an hour of my day! Crazy right? They did a great job. I was very proud of my class. They were very respectful to the other presenters.
Well now there was only an hour left in the day, so I decided that we were going to cut out writing today, and move right into Social Studies. We talked about how we have laws of the land, and how we have rules in the school. We did a group brainstorm, and I can already tell I have a smart class that is excited to learn, and thinks outside of the box! I was very pleased with the response I was able to get!
Then the bell rang, and guess what, it was time to go home! The day went super fast! I cannot even believe how fast the day went!I am so excited to have this class! I was truly blessed today, to have my first day run so smoothly. I am so grateful for the help I was given today! I am looking forward to tomorrow, and also this year!
